At the top of the city, do not hesitate to take the Stations of the Cross which will take you to the most beautiful viewpoints up to the castle and its ramparts. The view is exceptional!
It is in the rock of the sanctuary of Rocamadour that the mythical sword of the knight Roland, Durandal, is planted, several dozen meters high.
Legend has it that in the 8th century, Roland tried to break his blade so that it would not fall into the hands of the infidels. But when he struck the rock, only the stone gave way.
Roland then threw the sword with all his strength before it reached Rocamadour.
The famous sword has been stolen several times, including during the summer of 2024! During your visit, you can still see the chain to which it was attached. However, it was only a copy of the original.
Another natural wonder, this cave which houses cave paintings more than 20,000 years old. An exceptional testimony to prehistory.
Quercy is famous for its specialties, including the famous "Rocamadour", this small soft goat's cheese.
